Vancouver, British Columbia - Hailing out of Surrey, BC James Karnik is someone who flies under the radar in the basketball circles here in British Columbia. Karnik, nicknamed Captain Canada as a homage to his resembles both in appearance and impact to Captain America actor Chris Evans is the newest add to the Boston College Eagles.

James Karnik / 6’9” / 230LBS / PF / Boston College / Sr. Year.

The reason why Karnik tends to fly under the radar in conversations as one of the better players to come out of British Columbia is the fact that he played most of his career since HS out of the province but is very much still in the mix here locally. Captain Canada spends the majority of his summers here in BC and can be found putting in work in Surrey and AthElite's Basketball Academies facility.

Karnik’s B.C. roots to his journey started Sunnyside Elementary and White Rock Christian Academy as a, before moving on to Earl Marriott Secondary and Coquitlam’s B.C. Christian School to finish out the B.C. portion of his early path – he then finished off his HS career playing with prestigious prep schools abroad, first at Balboa Prep in San Diego, Calif. and finally, at Orangeville Prep in Ontario.

He keeps a low profile and thats just the way he likes it. Karnik can be described as a gritty player, someone who is not afraid to get his hands dirty and is the consummate team player who is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win. James also possesses a soft touch around the rim and out to 17 feet, He is a physical specimen and has a motor that is second to none.

Prior to transferring to Boston College of the ACC, widely considered to be the top collegiate basketball conference in the United States, Karnik spent time at Lehigh University (CJ McCollum’s Alma Mater) in Ohio. In his last season at Lehigh, Karnik put up impressive statistics averaging  12.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and one assist, block, and steal per game. He shot 57 percent from the field and reached double figures in scoring 15 times.

Karnik may not get the touches he did at Lehigh he will be a valuable veteran piece for the Eagles this coming season. Karnick just this week gained clearance from the NCAA and has two games under his belt in his new threads matchups versus Florida and Minnesota. Once James gets his legs under him he is projected to take the lions share of minutes at the 5 position for Boston College.

“We are excited to have James join our basketball family at Boston College,” head coach Jim Christian said in a release. “He is a talented, athletic big man with a great feel for the game. He adds high value as another experienced player. I’m looking forward to coaching him.”

Karnick s no stranger to playing on a grand scale as he played at the Canadian HS powerhouse Orangeville Prep which has produced NBA players such as Thon Maker, Jamal Murray and Ignas Brazdeikis.

We at Vancouver Basketball would like to wish James a successful Senior season at Boston College and cannot wait to watch him get in the mix and contribute in a large fashion on and off the court.

BC Proud.
